Taking an annual holiday is seen as being absolutely vital by many people and it can certainly provide us with the chance to relax. This can be really important, particularly if you work in a job where you face a lot of daily pressure.

Some people overlook the importance of taking time away from our working lives. That’s a shame, because a holiday can be a great way to unwind and also to prepare yourself for future weeks and months. It’s strange to think that a break could actually make you more productive at work but there can be no doubt that it has the potential to do so.

One of the hardest tasks facing you may be deciding on where to visit. This used to be a much easier decision, partly because we once had much less choice.

The arrival of cheap flights and the ease with which we can now book holidays online has meant that more and more of us look to travel to destinations that once would have simply been too costly. These price reductions in recent years have certainly been welcomed.

Prices have tended to fall fastest in the case of destinations where there are numerous travel companies competing with each other. Trips between the UK and the United States are a good example of this.

There have always been plenty of people looking to cross the Atlantic, meaning that operators have been forced to keep prices low in order to stay in business. This is great news for those of us looking to fly to the US and maybe stay there for a few weeks.

When you come to make a holiday booking there are various approaches that you might take. Some people like to book their flights, accommodations and transfers independently. Others prefer to book a package holiday, feeling that these offer the best deals.

Online companies like Go America now offer some really significant discounts on all elements of such holiday bookings. Use the internet to research your holiday destinations and to find the best deals that are currently available.

Holiday & Travel Guide For Naxos, Greece

You will find most of the ancient sites of Naxos on the north side of the town and they are well worth a visit. With quite a few places of interest on the island you will be kept busy if you haven’t come to just soak up the sun. Naxos museum is a good place to start as it is full of archaeological relics dating back to 5300 BC. Then there is Glezos tower, the fortress has an enormous tower and the building has recently been restored rather impressively. You also have Iria Temple that is found just outside the town. It was used as a place of worship and is believed to date back as far as 1300 BC. Most of the sites are close by to the main town, but if you want to go off the beaten track and explore the island, hiring a car would be ideal. Naxos has many villages to explore and they are so pretty and photogenic, with many old stone buildings. If you have had enough of ancient sites and poetic villages there is always the water park to spend the day in. It’s absolutely fabulous fun, for young and old, with loud music playing and loads of sun loungers all over the park to relax in. There are also a few restaurants in the park where the prices are a little elevated but if you need a snack you don’t have a lot of choice unless you have taken a picnic with you. Just outside of Naxos there is a terrific go- cart track that is open each day from 10am which is really great fun for all of the family.

Take in a movie at the open air cinema, where you can catch up with some of the latest releases while having a snack and a beer. You could even do some horse riding along the beach at sunset. If you want something more lively then there are some loud and lively clubs in the town, mainly around the waterfront area and believe me it gets packed. The town does have some nice bars towards the back of the town to relax in away from the latest music throbbing into your ears until the early morning.

Shopping is a little on the weak side in Naxos. There are shops and markets but it is just full of the usual tourist gift items, marble ornaments, beaded jewellery and lace and leather goods. There is a fine art gallery where you can purchase some modern art, but otherwise you won’t be breaking the bank on shopping.

Naxos does have some of the loveliest beaches with beautiful sand and warm turquoise waters. I believe there are around 14 of them dotted around the coastline from small coves to mile long beaches of pure white or golden sand. Many if not all of the beaches provide some water sports like sailing, snorkelling, windsurfing, kite surfing and not forgetting the popular jet skis. No matter what sort of beach you’re looking for you will find it around this island, so if you just want to soak up the sun and play with the kids without there being crowds of people then you will find one. There are beaches with lush vegetated backdrops or ones with wonderful sand dunes and then there are the ones with fabulous views, you will be spoilt for choice.

Happy Holidays

Florida Holidays Universal Studios

The chances are that if you are holidaying in Orlando you are likely to visit Universal Studios, and if this is your first trip, you will be hooked after just a day around this magnificent adventurous theme park.

Universal Orlando not only produces and directs movies and shows that we are all familiar with but it also houses three spectacular adventurous Islands namely Universal Studios, Universal Islands of Adventure and City Walk.

Upon entering the park the first thing that hits you is the loud inviting hip music that blares out as you pass into the gates from the escalators, there is also a lift for those who need wheelchair access.

Moving through you can either venture onto Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure where your first contact with park staff is at the gates where you will have to produce a ticket purchased previously or buy one at the kiosk for $55.33 for adults and $45.75 for children aged between 3 -9 years, under 3’s are free.

If you are planning more than one trip to Universal Orlando with the family it might be a cheaper option to buy a five day hopper pass, if you are hoping to visit Walt Disney World Resort, Sea World and Wet ‘n ‘ Wild on International Drive.

The Park is open from 9am until late at night, opening hours vary depending on season.

Once in the park you are stamped (on your hand) which means you can leave any of the different Islands within the park and return throughout the day without the need to queue up each time.

Once in the park you can explore at your leisure all the different rides, studios and districts that are based on famous movie scenes and streets in Hollywood, San Francisco and New York.

Located throughout the Parks are many restaurants which literally serve all different foods from around the globe including, Italian, Latin and American are to name just a few.

Located throughout are memorabilia themed stores including a twister department store which is entirely based on the hit movie Twister, there is also a Back to the Future Store and many others throughout the Park.

Traveling to and from Universal Orlando is easy with the help of multi storey parking for those who have cars, there is also a bus terminal located just outside the main entrance to the park which serves most of Orlando and a taxi rank which never seems to be that busy next door.

Taxi’s are real cheap, a short drive from Universal to International Drive will cost around $4, however if you want to be even cheaper you can take the I-ride trolley for under $1.00, or if you love Universal Studios so much and have plenty of cash to spare you could reside in once of their three rather nice, but pricey hotels all located within the grounds of Universal.

Holiday Travel Trends for 2013/2014

If you’ve been lucky enough to get away on a foreign holiday this year, perhaps you’re already thinking how you’ll afford it next year?

Earlier this month tour operators released their 2014 holidays, amongst a wealth of promotional offers such as individual discounts and ‘children go free’ places, strategically released when those of us that have got away are suffering from post-holiday blues.

However, for the most part these are difficult to actually take advantage of for a number of reasons. Firstly, many of us have only just returned from a summer holiday and the expense of laying down a deposit for next year’s can prove tight and the commitment of a holiday costing thousands a little overwhelming.

What’s more, ‘children go free’ places are available but often not on your hotel of choice.

According to the National Office of Statistics, 2013 saw fewer UK travellers jetting off – the recession is still hitting UK households hard. But it’s not all doom and gloom, as many people view a holiday as something that can’t be given up.

This year, long haul  travel , in particular, to North  America , saw a decline. Yet, short haul travel across Europe increased, with around 44.4 million of us getting away. European destinations such as Malaga continue to top the polls as the most popular get-away destination from most UK airports, whereby the weather is good, prices are reasonable and individual or tour operator travel has been affordable.

As a result,  travel  trends for 2014 are expected to mirror activity in 2013 – holidaymakers will avoid expensive long haul options and instead  holiday  in Europe. A few years ago, Mintel predicted that  holiday   travel  wouldn’t return to pre-recession levels until 2014/15. However, since that prediction, British summers have been wet and cold. As a result, whilst  travel  has been limited around Europe,  holiday  bookings have seen a surge. Even this year, when the UK basked in a heat wave, bookings were still high during the summer months, even late availability, and in particular around Easter and May time when the weather was exceptionally bad.

So looking to the year ahead, where do travel companies believe will be the most popular in 2014? Well, despite the political unrest, Egypt has already been taking bookings. Turkey remains popular, as it boast great value for money prices on outstanding hotels; plus with the guarantee of glorious weather. Tenerife remains a popular choice both for families and couples; making it the most popular of all the Canary Isles. And value for money Bulgaria is enjoying a surge in popularity as every penny counts with UK tourists and amazing deals on 5* hotels are currently available.

Malaga and Spain’s Costas remain popular, with sunshine and short flight times making it great for long weekend breaks and weeks away.

Despite Greece’s economic hardships two years ago, UK travellers have not been put off. Equally, Cyprus, which experienced money worries earlier this year, remains hugely popular.

Going On Holiday

Types Of Holiday

Holiday is a time to reconnect with ourselves, relax, and get away from it all, but perhaps lounging by the beach drinking mojitos and catching rays is not your idea of a good time. You need action! Adventure! You need a trip that is going to raise your adrenaline level through the roof and get your blood pumping through your veins. Adventure holidays are a great way to go if you’ve had enough downtime. Three adventure holidays sure to please, including mountain climbing, windsurfing, and whitewater rafting.

If you are looking to go on a romantic getaway that is a little more adult, you are talking about an adult vacation. There are many options to choose from in regards to an adult vacation, and depending of course on the basic location you would like to travel to, the amount of money you are willing to spend, and most importantly your own personal preference, the options can be narrowed down in order to find the perfect adult vacation getaway spot for you.

Many travel agencies and websites will offer different vacation packages that will sometimes include hotel accommodations, airfare, car rentals and show tickets. Are these vacation packages offering you a discount? I decided to find a few vacation package offers both on the web and through a travel agency that tickled my fancy. Then I jumped on the web myself to see if I could put something together that was similar but better in price.

But what exactly are all-inclusive holidays? The goal behind all-inclusive   holidays  is to provide the  travel  with a one-stop shop, and they include several different aspects of the traveling experience in one, all-inclusive package. With your reservation and payment, you often purchase a package that includes your food or admission to shows – that type of thing. Examples of all-inclusive holidays include Sandals Caribbean Resorts, cruises, etc.

Still Stuck For Ideas?

So you are ready to take a break but still cannot make up your mind where you want to go, and what exactly you want to do. Everyone in the family has his/her own wish for this year’s vacation and you find impossible to please them all. Well, here is an idea worth considering, take an all-inclusive vacation on a cruise ship.

Bargain/Cheap Holidays

It is tempting to read low price offers of bargain  holidays  in advertisements by  travel  agents, but before you dart for a deal with the agent, make sure what you are getting is not a sham. Several bargain holiday ads advertised as special offers are not available for the price shown but higher ones, or they might not be available at all, doing away with your excitement. You come to know that the advertised price of the package excludes certain expenses like transport fares between the destination airport and the dwelling place, meals during the travel, and insurance. The Trading Standards Services of Britain found a number of cases where the actual price charged was £20 to £100 more than the advertised price of the package. It is important, therefore, to be wary of some points before buying an advertised holiday package.

Cheap holidays are always in demand since we all need to keep as many of our bucks pocketed as possible. It is interesting to compare the two types of holidays, package holidays and DIY (Do It Yourself) holidays, in terms of cost to decide which one is cheaper. In a package  holiday , you do not book your own  holiday  but do it through someone like a  travel  agent who gets you the services of a tour operator. This type of holiday is an all-in-one deal. You have to pay the money and everything about your holiday (getting there, boarding, lodging etc.) is arranged for you. On the other hand, it is getting common now to arrange a DIY holiday on the web. You do booking of all your  holiday  needs, like  travel  and accommodation by yourself.

What About Your Pets?

A holiday is a family occasion, bringing joy and gathering of family members, including pets, but there is a flip side of the coin: possible harm to your pet. In all the bustle that comes with a typical American holiday – planning, party arrangements, preparations for picnics, shopping, and rushing about – pets not only fall a prey to neglect, but also suffer serious injuries and disease. Special care needs to be taken for the health of your pets on holidays like Christmas, Easter, Independence Day, Halloween, and other days of festivity.

Try a Fly Drive Holiday to America This Year

Explore the delights of  America  & Canada on a fly drive  holiday , experience the ever changing scenery of Pacific Highway 1, the culture of New England, experience the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon or enjoy  Americas  sunshine state on a Florida Fly Drive  holiday , the destinations for your fly drive holiday are endless and the flexibility its appeal.

Book yourself return flights, hire yourself a car and buy a map or plan a little more and have a route and itinerary to follow. I can’t recommend it highly enough, the kids love the ever changing scenery and are captured by a new holiday destination every 2 or 3 days and as adults the every changing landscape and variety is surprisingly restful.

A Fly Drive  holiday  can be designed with a planned route, secure in the knowledge that your next hotel is expecting you, or you can plan your  America  fly drive  holiday  as you go along. Alternately experience the freedom of the open road and plan your  America  fly drive  holiday  in a Motor home. Nowhere is more suited to a fly drive  holiday  than North  America  or Canada with its wide open roads and diverse landscapes.

Try to keep a good handle on how large America and Canada are, Google maps is a good tool to use if you want to know how far San Francisco and Los Angeles are from one another for example; incidentally they are almost 500 miles apart and would take almost 10 hours to drive from one to another continuously but as this is a holiday, I wouldn’t recommend you do the trip in less that 3 days as there’s so much to see and if you have the time you can easily spend 2 weeks on such a trip. To give you an idea this is an itinerary I regularly create for folks;

California Pacific Coast Fly Drive  Holiday :
A stunning, breathtaking, drive down  America’s  infamous” Pacific Highway 1″ taking in the rocky cliffs between San Francisco and Monterey, stopping at the enchanting town of Carmel and leisurely driving down the Big Sur coast line towards San Simeon and Santa Barbara before arriving in Los Angeles, the movie capital of the World.

I love creating  holidays  for customer – maybe you want to explore the West Coast of  America  or feel that there must be something more to Florida than just Disneyland and your right, there is!! And the National Parks across America are a must see, The Class West Fly Drive is just a sample, the diversity is vast so I suggest you get out a map and remembering how vast the USA is make a plan on where you’d like to visit.

Classic West Fly Drive Holiday
Is a great taster of what California has to offer and a perfect trip for the family. Shopping in San Francisco, the lush green forest and mirror lake of Yosemite NP, stunning red rock and arid dessert of Death Valley, the awe inspiring Grand Canyon, the excitement of Las Vegas and the magic of Los Angeles, the movie capital of the world. For more information read

Grand Canyon Fly Drive  Holiday
Our most popular fly drive taking in 3 States, fly into Nevada, spend your first night in Las Vegas, journey into Arizona and experience the awe inspiring Grand Canyon onto Lake Powell the second largest reservoir in  America , into Utah and Monument Valley the most majestic point on earth, enjoy the tranquility of Capitol Reef before experiencing the diversity of Bryce Canyon and the towering cliffs of Zion before heading back to Las Vegas.

These are just suggestions of what there is to see in America and how interesting it can be. This is a link to more information if you’re interested: america /fly-drive-holidays

Travelling Holidays For Seniors

If you are a senior in search of a vacation, planning ahead could ensure you of a memorable and fun trip. Various types of vacations can be planned around senior  travel , and whether you are looking to relax or plan your  holiday  full of activity, your convenience and any special attention you might require should be taken into consideration.

Taking a cruise no longer means sailing with young spring breakers looking for a 24-hour party. Certain voyages offer five-star treatment on a smaller scale, making manoeuvring about the ship an easier task, which is what many seniors require. The smaller, more intimate crowd offers a quieter trip, making relaxing conversation and new friendships possible. Most large cruise lines offer Alaskan cruises or South Seas cruises with ports-of-call geared with seniors in mind. You might even want to plan an around-the-world vacation on the world’s largest vessels that offer every amenity a senior could need.

If sailing the seas is not your chosen destination, you might consider a river cruise on some of America’s great rivers. The Mississippi River is popular to small cruise boats and paddlewheelers that offer cruises up to a week long. These senior cruises many times offer some type of on-board lecturers and history and educational cruises to peak the interest of senior travellers while they move lazily down the river. Several historical ports-of-call offer day adventures along the way in order to see the sights of each city.

If travelling by land suits you more, consider a senior tour. Many travel companies offer exceptional travel plans for the senior by offering unique railroad trips, hot air ballooning or private jet or plane tours with specific stops. Whatever your choice, planning details well ahead of your travel dates will ensure a successful trip. Agents and tour companies offer different types of senior tours, because seniors usually have varied preferences when it comes to group size. A large group of seniors will often take coach holidays which usually holds 40 people, with an escort. A great advantage to a senior tour is that sightseeing, lodging, and most of the dining arrangements are typically planned for you in advance.

If you are an active senior adult, you might want to plan a vacation geared around physical activity. While this type of vacation may not fall within the definition of typical senior travel, they are popular with many seniors well into their 70’s and 80’s. These types of tours could include extensive walking, hiking, or cycling. Your accommodations can be more rustic and the tour areas more remote if you choose. Sailing may also be included.

You can also plan your trip around your middle-aged children with a type of family reunion at a specific destination. Motor home vacations are popular with seniors, and your travel agent can assist you in planning a vacation that includes a motor home rental. There are motor home parks scattered across the country offering breathtaking sights and some great memories.

Trekking Holidays in Asia

So you are thinking of a trekking holiday in Asia? Well like many people in recent years you are not alone, as trekking holidays are becoming more and more popular, with all age groups. Whether it’s on your own, as part of a group and even as a family with your children, most options are catered for. Just get in touch with a good specialist travel operator and get them to tailor a package to suit your needs, if they don’t have the exact criteria off the shelf.

A good specialist travel agent is worth their weight in gold, especially if they have specialist, personal knowledge and experience of the destination or areas you are looking to travel in. So do your homework and start asking questions, as that’s what they are there for.

One of the popular destinations for   travelling  to Asia these days is to go on a trekking  holiday  to Nepal. It could be for one of many reasons, whether it is to go on an Everest Base Camp Trek, to take in and experience the stunning Himalayas or to do some soul searching or personal spiritual development and immerse yourself in Buddhist culture, visiting and meditating at one of the many Buddhist temples, there are many things to see and do on this type of trekking holiday.

It is worth first considering actually what time of year you want to travel, as the season could have an impact on you and your itinerary. As obviously weather could and will be an issue depending on the time of year, as this will effect what clothing you will have to take with you.

Depending where you will be travelling in Nepal available accommodation can vary. If you are staying in or near Kathmandu then you should find cheap affordable small hotels, bed and breakfast style accommodation or hostels.

When staying in more remote areas, accommodation can be in the form of local teahouses on Nepalese trekking holidays, this can allow travellers to meet and interact with local people & their culture, plus share their experiences. There will also be limited accommodation hostels, small hotels and even campsites, catering for people on the move. The best time to travel is generally the beginning of the dry season which is between October & November. The second preferred time to visit this area is around February to April which is the tail end of the dry season. If you are planning on a cheaper budget then you can consider travelling December and January. It is much colder then & there is snow fall, but the trade off is bright clear blue skies, ideal for sight-seeing and photography, just pack some extra layers, a good quality (warm) 4 season winter sleeping bag for those cheap hotels or hostels and all should be fine.

Although Nepal is poor by western standards, it is an area of the world that is rich and in abundance of ancient & more recent history. Also it’s a very special place on earth, not just because it has become a Mecca for climbers, adventurers, and people just wanting to be close to or climb the highest mountain in the world, Everest. I feel though there is more to it than that, it’s a sense of awe in the presence of such a place that is so overwhelming and humbles you while in its presence. Plus the breathtaking scenery of the mountains that bring a sense of reality and perspective to life itself.

Last Minute Accommodation in America

Holiday  rentals in  America  at the eleventh hour are easy to find and will not break your purse. There are several options to find  holiday  rentals from using online searches for private cottages in your itinerary locales to your favorite  travel  adverts. Whether the economy in America is booming or on a downturn, last minute accommodation is always available and often much cheaper than bookings obtained early. This is because the landlord or hotel finds itself in need of filling rooms and would prefer to do so at a loss or greatly reduced rate at the last minute versus the alternative of having no holiday guests at all.

If you are looking for city accommodations then definitely search for deals and offers at trusted and expensive 4 and 5 star accommodations for half their standard rates. For the most part, they will be in a good, safe part of town and easier to judge versus a private let in a vast US city, which are few as compares to Europe’s many private vacation accommodations. Any large metropolis in the US like New York, Washington, DC, Los Angeles or Scottsdale in Arizona will have many super hotels to choose from for as little as 70 euros versus their going rate of 120 euros. Most hotel rooms these days will easily sleep 4 to 5 with two small beds and a pull-out sofa. Make sure the refrigerator is included in the price!

Holiday rental flats or private villas booked a week or just days in advance will be more likely to negotiate a lower rate with a minimum of 3 nights. These last minute accommodations are always less expensive than a hotel room and have a full kitchen even laundry, but do watch the cleaning fee. An online search for the town you want to visit followed by the phrase, cabins for rent or vacation rentals, will easily get you started. If your journey is off the road well traveled, search for local real estate agents, and ask them if they know of any short term vacation rentals. If you are  traveling  with 3 or more people, this is an inexpensive way to see  America  since most of these  holiday  lets will be huge, and sleep as many as 8 people for far less than the price of one local hotel room. Lastly, the neighborhoods will be nice and centrally located.
